Description of Project:
Definition: Makhool Dam is an uncomplete project located on Tigris River, 30 Km northeast of
Baiji city within Salahuddin governorate, 16 Km to the upstream of Fatha Bridge, and
10 Km south of Tigris-Lower Zap confluence. Suggested limits of its reservoir are
bounded within the longitudes 43o 12’ 08” to 43o 38’ 48” East and the latitudes 35o
09’ 21” to 35o 41’ 19” North where the reservoir extends to reach the outskirts of the
Al-Shirqat city. the reservoir floods the confluence of the Lower Zab River with the
Tigris River forming a basin of (20) kilometers long
Goals of the Project:
The work aims to provide sophisticated designs of the project at the level of planning designs and a set of tender documents in which contractors can rely on to build
Makhool Dam according to accepted international standards.
The project itself is planned to achieve the following main goals:
1. Mitigation of flood risks potentially caused by Tigris, Upper Zap and Lower Zap rivers.
2. Regulating flow and make benefits of impounded water for irrigation purposes especially in water scarcity seasons.
3. Power generation.
4. Encouraging the development of fisheries and tourism.
5. Achieving other objectives such as contributing to the country's economic recovery, reducing poverty and unemployment, increasing the food safety
factor, and improving community infrastructure in rural areas
Scope of Services:
- Review and evaluate the previous implemented works and all documents available on the project.
- Investigations and Testing
- Build physical and mathematical hydraulic models of scale 1:40 modelling the operation of dam structures (Spillway, Stilling Basin, etc.…)
- Other Studies
- Design and tender documents
